Hi MOKiN Community and Support Team,
I am experiencing a persistent video output failure with my two MOKiN MUC1801 and MOUCO119 USB-C multiport hubs following a brief power outage/flicker. I need help figuring out how to reset the hub's internal video controller chipset or force a clean hardware handshake with my Mac, as the video channel appears completely locked out.
My Hardware Setup:
- Laptop: Apple MacBook Air 13" (2020) with Apple Silicon M1 Chip, 8GB RAM, running macOS Tahoe.
- Primary Hub: MOKiN MUC1801 Multiport USB-C Hub.
- Secondary Hub Tested: A second MOKiN adapter, model mouco119 (S/N: 2349).
- Monitor: Dell UltraSharp U2414H 24" Monitor (connected via standard HDMI).
The Problem & Exact Symptoms:
During a brief household power flicker, a voltage fluctuation passed through my setup while my accessories were connected. Immediately following the flicker, the external video signal cut out completely and has not returned on my primary setup.
The symptoms are highly specific:
- Low-Bandwidth Pass-Through Works: When I plug my external USB mouse into the MOKiN MUC1801 hub, the mouse works perfectly. Low-voltage data lines are completely functional.
- The Monitor's "Dim Light / Faint Glow" Loop: When connected to the Mac via the MOKiN hub, the Dell U2414H monitor does not display a "No Cable" floating warning, nor does it show my desktop image or its own built-in settings menu. Instead, the screen just sits with a faint, dim background glow (backlight is powered, but the video scaler board inside the monitor is entirely blank/frozen).
- The Mac Rejects the Hub Video Path: In macOS System Settings > Displays, the external Dell monitor is no longer detected at all. It seems macOS is actively blocking or ignoring the high-bandwidth video data stream coming from the MOKiN hub.
- Multiple Hubs Rejected: To isolate the issue, I tested a completely different adapter model—a mouco119 (S/N: 2349)—and it behaves exactly the same way. It passes mouse data, but the Mac completely rejects the video output channel.
Critical Evidence: All Hardware is Working with Other Devices
To isolate the root cause, I conducted extensive cross-testing. I have definitively proven that every single piece of physical hardware is 100% functional when paired with other devices:
- The Dell Monitor & HDMI Cable work perfectly: I tested the Dell U2414H monitor and the HDMI cable with my iPad, and it displayed the iPad's image flawlessly. I also ran the monitor's Built-In Self-Test (BIST) by holding Button 1 and Button 4; the display panel successfully cycled through its diagnostic color screens. The monitor is not broken.
- The Mac Ports & Hub work perfectly with other screens: I took my MacBook Air and the MOKiN hub to a home TV, connected via HDMI, and the Mac successfully recognized the TV hardware layout. The MacBook's ports and the hub are capable of outputting video.
- I also tried with a hub from a different brand, and it works fine.
- Please notice that I'm been using the MOKiN adapters for a while, so I know they work fine also.
Please help.
