Hello everyone, I am new here and this forum looks very useful for people who want to learn about products and technical measurement.
I have some question that maybe someone here can help me. I am working on a small project and I need to understand how to measure metal parts correctly and how to make good estimate for steel structure estimate for job planning. I know this forum mostly talk about product details, technical tools, and support for devices, but I think measurement and cost estimate of metal structure is like measuring parts on product side too. My situation: I have some steel beams and metal plates that I want to join for a small roof frame. I need to send to contractor and ask for quote. But before I ask quote I want to make my own rough estimate how much material I need and how much cost could be. I know there are tools to measure length, width, thickness etc. but I don’t know best method to convert that into good cost estimate. Does anyone here have general advice how to make rough estimate before asking professionals? Maybe you use some calculation sheet, online calculator, or simple rule? I would like to understand basic method so I can match with real quote and ask correct questions with contractor. Thank you very much in advance.
